Former Big Society Capital investment chief to manage funder’s £1bn endowment

Emma Davies, the founding chief investment officer at Big Society Capital, has been appointed to the same role at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation to manage its £1bn endowment.

The funder’s endowment is made up of investments, land, and property, and aims to fund positive health initiatives.

Her priorities include driving progress to ensure the grant maker is a responsible ESG (environmental, social, governance) investor.

She was most recently a senior staff at Octopus Ventures and has worked at JP Morgan, Perry Capital and The Wellcome Trust.

“I am very pleased to be joining Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation as Chief Investment Officer,” said Davies.

“The Foundation’s mission to build the foundations of a healthier society is vital in solving the collective challenges we all face as people, societies and global community.

The dual mandate the Foundation sets for its endowment to drive financial returns and health impact is ambitious, and exciting. It’s leading the way for foundations and mainstream investors in showing how we can all contribute to building a healthier society. I am looking forward to working with the Foundation to realise this shared vision.”

The Foundation is separate from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and independent from the NHS.
